ANKARA, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- The Turkish military "neutralized" 35 "terrorists" in operations in northern Iraq and northern Syria over the past four days, the country's Defense Ministry said on Friday.

Turkish forces killed 27 members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in airstrikes since Monday, targeting multiple regions in northern Iraq, including Matina, Zap, Gara, Hakurk, Qandil, and Asos, the ministry said in a statement.

Of those killed, 20 were targeted on Monday, and the other seven in Hakurk in the following days, it said.

"Turkish jets continue to monitor the area," the ministry said in a post on the social media platform X.

In a separate operation in northern Syria, Turkish forces killed eight members of the Syrian Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG), the ministry said.

Türkiye considers the YPG group to be the PKK's Syrian branch.

The PKK, listed as a terrorist organization by Türkiye, the United States, and the European Union, has been rebelling against the Turkish government for more than three decades.

Turkish authorities often use the term "neutralized" in their statements to indicate that the "terrorists" in question surrendered, were killed, or were captured.
